We keep machines working while the rules change around them

Edge SDN is the product line of Stoorm5, an Italian company based in Bologna. It helps machine builders, software builders and plant operators get ready for the EU Cyber Resilience Act, the Machinery Regulation and NIS2. The products are Shield Lifecycle, Edge Shield and the Edge SDN platform.

Why we built this

From the plant network to the machine itself

We started inside industrial networks. Our first job was to protect production processes without stopping them. We show what talks to what, put each process in its own zone and leave control to the people on the shop floor. That work became the Edge SDN platform and the Edge Shield switch.

Then the rules changed. The Cyber Resilience Act and the new Machinery Regulation moved part of the responsibility from the plant to the company that builds the machine. A machine builder now answers for the software inside every machine it ships, for years after delivery.

Most machine builders have excellent mechanical and automation engineers and nobody who does cybersecurity full time. They do not need another scanner. They need someone who does the daily work for them and tells them only what matters. That is Shield Lifecycle.

Edge SDN and Stoorm5

Edge SDN is our brand and the name of our product line. Stoorm5 is the company behind it: it develops the products, signs the contracts and is responsible for the service.

Who you talk to

The people behind the product

We are a small team. In a pilot you work with the people who built the platform, not with an account manager.

PhD in engineering from the University of Bologna and ten years as a researcher before he founded the company. Since then he has worked inside production networks, and he is the person you talk to in a pilot.

How we work

Four rules we hold ourselves to

We do not promise compliance

The manufacturer declares conformity. We supply the monitoring, the judgments and the evidence, and we say clearly where our part ends.

We respect production

Everything we build is designed to be added in a planned maintenance window, without changing what already works.

We cite the law, not opinions

Every date and duty on this site links to the official text. When the rules are not final, we say so.

Your data stays yours

Shield Lifecycle runs in our cloud today and a version for your own server is coming. The Edge SDN platform runs on-premises or in the cloud. Each customer sees only their own machines.

See a critical CVE hit a machine

We show you the moment that matters: a new vulnerability lands. One machine is exposed and the other is not. The customer notice is ready to send.
