What happened
On 13 August 2026 ETSI announced that 17 final draft European Standards of the EN 304 6xx series, the vertical CRA standards for product categories such as routers and switches, firewalls, VPNs, operating systems, hypervisors and network interfaces, are under public enquiry. They were submitted to 41 member organisations. The approval procedure runs until mid-September to mid-November 2026 depending on the standard. The drafts are public on the ETSI docbox.
What it means for machine builders
Machine builders rarely make these products, but they build them in: the industrial router in the cabinet, the firewall in front of the line, the operating system on the HMI. Ask your component suppliers which of these drafts they are aligning with and when they expect a declaration against them. Where you integrate such a component into a machine you place on the market, the component's conformity is part of your evidence. No standard is cited in the Official Journal yet, so none gives presumption of conformity today.
